I think the tent is over priced and the website does not advertize it correctly. I was told that it was a 4 season tent; however, it is a 3 season tent. I contacted the company that sold it, but they never responded to any of my messages.

Kelty Gunnison 4.1 Tent 4-Person 3-Season Review

Kelty Gunnison 4.1 Tent 4-Person 3-Season
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's face it - buying a tent is like buying a house; unless you build it yourself, you are never going to get exactly what you want. That having been said, the Kelty Gunnison 4.1 4-person tent is pretty close to exactly what I wanted, and a great tent.
Packed up: The G-4.1 is at the large end of what you want for backpacking. Packed up, it measures approximately 8"x28" and weighs about 8.5 pounds, so it's going to take up a lot of room either in your pack or (more likely) strapped on the outside of your pack. But if you can hack it, that's really a pretty light weight for a tent this size. On the otherhand, it's a perfect size/wieght for car camping, if not on the small end of that spectrum.
Included in the package are (1) the tent; (2) two super lightweight aluminum poles; (3) rain fly; and (10) lightweight tent stakes with tie down lines.
Set up: This is where the G-4.1 is truly spectacular. When I got the tent, I quickly glanced at the directions for set up and decided to do a test run in my living room. If you want to do this too, make sure you have a BIG living room and lots of room to manuever the poles, cause they are REALLY long and I was constantly knocking over books and pictures. Anyway, I unrolled the tent and put it on the floor. I then put the poles together -- each pole breaks down into several smaller segments that are permanently linked together so you can't lose them. As you can see from the photos of this tent, the poles criss-cross at the apex of the tent, forming a big X from which the tent is suspended. Kelty uses a "clip" system in which the poles simply click into plastic brackets, rather than you having to thread them through anything. Each end of the pole is then fit into an anchor at the bottom corners of the tent. The rain fly was also extremly easy to put on, with the anchors for the poles also doubling as the anchors for the rain fly. The bottom line, folks, is that I think this tent took me all of about three minutes to set up. I was truly amazed at how easy it was. The best way I can describe it is that the G-4.1 is totally intuitive in the set up -- you look at the parts and you can just see how they fit together. Really an awesome design job.
I just took this tent camping for the first time last weekend and set it up in very quickly fading light conditions. I had the whole thing set up and staked down -- footprint, tent, rain fly -- in a little over 10 minutes.
One thing I would recommend is that you grab six (6) little caribiners to attach the rain fly lines to the tent. They don't come with clips and you have to tie them on otherwise. Also, make sure the fly is in as little contact with the tent as possible to prevent moisture buildup from condensation. If you have the fly on properly, this is not a problem because the design of the fly and tent take care of that for you. Also, get the foot print or a tarp for underneath.
Tent Features: The G-4.1 has a lot of really great features. First, it has a circular zip door on each side. This may not sound like a great innovation at first, but think back to your camping experiences and having to climb over people to get into the tent. Second, the G-4.1 is extremely well ventilated. There are large mesh sections of the walls, in the doors, on the top of the tent so that air flows freely through. Third, the G-4 has great visibility if you don't need to have the fly on. The afore-mentioned mesh sections let you see the stars. Fourth, the floor design keeps the bottom seams off of the floor, which will keep you dry. Fifth, there are little "gear" bags on two sides of the tent, to stash your glasses or a flashlight. Sixth, there are clips on the ceiling from which one may hang extra gear bags and the tent comes with a "shelf" that you can tie up there -- very handy for a light or for other stuff. Seventh, the rain fly creates dual vestibules in which your extra gear can be stored and, since you have two doors, both vestibules are easily accessible.
Tent Construction: Along with the "bathtub" seams, this tent is very well put together. Tape stiching at important junctures, double stiching all around, and a good, taut, solid feel to the tent. The floor material is good for soft ground, but I'd recommend the foot print just to be on the safe side. The fly fits on like a glove and provides for some ventilation as well. This is a solid tent, and once you get it set up (and assuming you put the stakes in the ground), it's not going anywhere.
Size: I think we all know that "4-person" in tent-speak really means "4 people no larger than 5'8" and 160 pounds, maximum." The G-4.1 holds true to this convention. I'm 6'2" and I barely fit in this tent the way people are suggested to lie in it (head to toe across the short side), and I don't fit in with a sleeping bag. I had my wife (5'6") and my 6-year old and 2-year old also get in the tent at the same time. Thinking to the future, the G-4.1 will be comfortable for three of us but too tight for all four of us. If we all four go camping, I'd bring a 2-man tent for the kids and keep all the gear in the G-4.1 with the adults. But if you have three or less people, this thing is spacious and feels that way.
I love this tent. Buy it!

Vista Tent - 3 Person by Black Diamond Review

Vista Tent - 3 Person by Black Diamond
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I finally got around to testing this tent under a number of different circumstances after I purchased it a couple of months ago.
First it's quite spacey and like most 3 person tents it is very comfortable with two people.
The vestibules could have come a bit larger as there is not that much space to leave your backpack.
I like the the two doors.Makes it easier to get out when you don't have to crawl over the other person in the tent.
Although the external doors are fitted somewhat a bit awkward -meaning not exactly over the inner doors. So you kinda have to get around from one end to the other somehow.
All the mesh is nice if you want to watch the stars at night for instance but if it does get cold it can become a bit breathy in there, with the fly over it that is.
So definetly not more than a 3season tent, maybe even more like a 2 1/2 season one depending on where you camp.
I used it in the Australian outback/bush and in the mountains,in sun and hot tropical conditions and in pouring rain and mountain chills.
It performed very well in the rain but you need to have a good footprint.
I tried some polyester tarp stuff but because of the different size at the ends I have decided to order the original footprint from Backcountry.
Overall it is a good lightweight tent for camping and hiking but not for really cold weather (have a marmot pinnacle sleepingbag and good mat).
The one thing that is really strange is it seems to attract large crowds of flies, sandflies, and the like-must be because of the colour(?) I guess.
Can become a bit annoying depending on where you stay.
and they could have added a couple of spare pegs.
But in that price range a reliable and easy to put up lightweight option which performs well in rain.

We are a Boy Scout Troop that does a lot of backpacking and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains of SC and NC. We have some older Kelty tents that have held up great through all of the abuse a group of teenage boys can put out, so we're very pleased with the brand. The features of the Gunnison were the best in the price range. We've had them out a couple of times and are happy with the room, weight and design of the tents. Especially the 2 door design and the large vestibules. We're expecting years of service from them. Will definitely buy again as we need more tents.

Wenger Alpina II 2-Person 3-Season Hiker Tent Review

Wenger Alpina II 2-Person 3-Season Hiker Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this tent for solo camping. I think two people would be too tight unless one was little, and very affectionate. The tent is easy to set up, of good quality. I took this little tent camping at French Creek, Pennsylania in February, and we got an incredible two days of winds over 50 mph. The sound was just incredible! But the Alpina II was unfazed. Now I know: the Alpina isn't just a pretty face. The wind was so loud through the trees it sounded like a jet aircraft passing over the tent while a tractor-trailer exited a tunnel three feet away! The most important thing is to get the stakes in good, and make sure everything is nice and tight from the start. But that is pretty easy. I'm not some 18 year old extreme sports kid, but rather a 60 year old botanist. If I can do it, believe me, so can you.

Eureka Timberline SQ 4XT Tent 4-Person 3-Season One Color, One Size Review

Eureka Timberline SQ 4XT Tent 4-Person 3-Season One Color, One Size
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got this tent just in time for a weekend camping trip.
The good: After practicing once at home, this tent only took about 10 minutes to set up solo. The fly attaches with quick release buckles, and the front corner of the tent and fly are done in a different color than the other 3 to ensure you're doing it the right way, and I skipped the step to put the spreader bar in the fly's pockets. It's nearly impossible, turns a 10 minute setup into half an hour, and I doubt it's necessary. The tent is very well ventillated with the tarp on, and there is ample room under the integral vestibule for muddy boots. The fly also attaches to the sides of the tent with toggles versus snaps, ties, etc. to speed setup. The frame also seems much stronger than the older timberline 2 & 4 frames. Having the hub integrated in the "A" of the frame also speeds setup. Floor size is certainly suitable for 2 guys on cots...if you are against the side of the tent, you are against mesh, with a couple inches between you and the fly, so you aren't going to get wet from condensation. The pre-done seam sealing seems very well done, as well. The vestibule is vented with a covered mesh vent that is held open at the bottom with a plastic wire...a nice improvement over the old timberline "tube vent" on their vestibules.
The bad: You would think that with a $270 +/- tent, Eureka would ditch the stupid plastic stakes and wire pins for some decent aluminum y-stakes like the MSR Groundhogs. Not so. The tent is supplied with crappy stakes you have to replace anyways. I would rather have not had any at all, and a message from Eureka to buy my own, or better yet just pay a little more up front. Come on, guys, this isn't a $30 pup tent from Wal Mart that you get for your 6 year old to use in the back yard. That's tacky, Eureka, just tacky.
Also, they are serious when they say it's a 3-season tent. If it's 20 degrees outside, it will be 20 degrees inside...the tent will absolutely not hold any heat. Granted, that ventillation will be nice when it's 80 degrees and raining.

Amazon.com Tent Guide Selecting a Tent Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

MSR Mutha Hubba HP 3-Person Tent Review

MSR Mutha Hubba HP 3-Person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're willing to sit (or are tall enough you can't ever stand, even in the tallest dome tents, like me) this tent gives as much effective space as almost any 4-person tent out there. Plus, it's very well made, has a good profile for resisting wind and storms, comes from a quality manufacturer you can trust, and is easy to set up and take down. It is light enough to backpack with -- just barely, and if you are a bit of a "pack horse".
My wife and I use this with our 2-year-old daughter primarily for car camping. We have a *ton* of space. The footprint of this tent is larger than a queen size bed. If you're considering using this mostly for car camping, I recommend the LL Bean semi-rectangular synthetic bags (all semi-rectangular bags zip together since they have a symmetrical shape) and a cheap high density foam or memory-foam mattress topper instead of a traditional Therm-A-Rest style mattress. You will then effectively have a queen size bed *and* tent that you can fit in the trunk of your car with ease.
This tent at Amazon's current pricing beats even the sale prices you'll see around on the old Mutha Hubba (non-HP) model. If Amazon ends the big sale, that won't be so. The older model might actually be nicer if you don't anticipate severe conditions -- it relies more on the rainfly for weatherproofness and so it's a lot airier inside since it has a lot of mosquito mesh where this model has canvas. Still, even on a summer car camping trip there have been days when I was very glad to have the extra rain protection this 'HP' version offered.
Buy the optional footprint but don't try to stretch it tight -- it is slightly undersized and *will* tear if you do so. This tent floor is quite waterproof and does not need edge-to-edge protection from the footprint, which is mostly to keep it from grinding on the dirt and becoming no longer watertight. The footprint is cheap, already cut to the right size and shape, and *much* lighter than one homemade from a tarp.

MSR's lightest, freestanding 3-person tent weighs less than the Mutha Hubba, yet offers greater coverage in the tent canopy for added protection and warmth during unexpected, early-season snowfalls or persistent coastal winds. We've achieved this increased protection with lighter weight by utilizing the latest fabrics and technology to bring the Mutha Hubba HP down to an impressive 6 pounds, 4 ounces. Along with the fast and easy pitching hub and swivel pole design, the Mutha Hubba HP is light enough for two, big enough for three and strong for almost anything you'll find this side of winter.
Ultralight: Technical fabric shaves ounces and provides more protection from snow, sand, and wind.
Livable: Unique pole configuration provides maximum interior space, two doors, and two large vestibules for storing gear.
Quick and Easy Setup: All-in-one hub-and-swivel pole design is strong and simple to use.
Versatile: Can be used as a double-wall tent for full protection or in two freestanding tarp-shelter modes: with optional footprint (sold separately), or just the fly and poles only for the ultimate in weight savings.

MSR Footprints MSR recommends using a water-resistant polyester-taffeta footprint that's designed specifically for this tent to protect its floor from sharp objects, such as rocks and pine needles, as well as from mud and ground water. MSR footprints also increase the versatility of most tents by acting as a ground cloth in lightweight tarp-style setups.

Texsport Phoenix 3 Season Tent Review

Texsport Phoenix 3 Season Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Now this is what I call a 3-season tent! It has aluminum poles, & the rain fly is fitted and goes the whole way to the ground (You should see what some retailers call a 3-season tent). It was very easy to set up & take down. I am 4'10" and I left the directions (not very detailed but I have found that all tent directions are not very detailed)at home by mistake but was still able do it by myself. There was plenty of room for 2 people and a medium sized dog. Only setback is that a queen size mattress would not fit, but a twin would. The lines follow that of the mummy sleeping bags. There are two huge doors in the rain fly that match up exactly to the two doors (one on either side for easy entry & exit of both occupants) in the tent. There are two separate mesh doors with their own zippers that are the whole size of the doors. There is also a mesh top which allows for easy stargazing. It is the only mesh portion which does not have its own separate zipper cover, but is covered by the rain fly. With these three huge mesh areas, it is very ventilated for those warm summer nights, but with the full coverage rain fly and zipper doors, this tent has almost two entire layers to keep you warm on those cold fall nights. There is a taped seam on the floor and there is one taped seam on the rain fly. This tent folds up to be very small, compact & lightweight, thus would also make a terrific backpacking tent for 2 people(& a dog!).

Kelty Trail Ridge 6 Basecamp 6 Person Tent Review

Kelty Trail Ridge 6 Basecamp 6 Person Tent

I bought my Kelty Trail Ridge 6 from HumbleOutdoors for $261 , it came with a free footprint.
My Kelty Trail Ridge 6 tent has some steep vertical walls ,2 large doors, and two a vestibules (both front and back). The vertical walls gives me much more livable interior space, and the included vestibule frees up even more space. This is a great family tent, plenty of room for a air mattress with space too spare.
Construction quality is decent, the tent sets in just a few minutes.

Looking for a spacious interior? The Trail Ridge incorporates a multi-diameter pole configuration that enables the walls to stay steep and aggressively arch toward the top for a much larger livable space. This ideal family tent also has two equal-sized vestibules flanking each end for easy entry/exit and plenty of storage.

Kelty Teton 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season Review

Kelty Teton 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season

... with two kids, in a jungle in southern Madagascar.
We stayed dry. It rained torrentially for 11 days straight- and not a drop of water got inside the tent. Amazing! On dewy mornings, there was quite a bit of condensation on the bottom walls, but the air circulation through the mesh roof is excellent and the condensation lasts only an hour or so once the sun's up. We left our boots in the vestibule every night, and they were always dry in the morning, even after a gale.
The tent holds up well in strong winds. It was difficult to sleep through gales, though, because the vestibule does flap in very strong winds.
Malaria is a problem in the area we camped in, so I was concerned about the netting and whether mosquitoes could bite through the light fabric. I need not have worried. We used the vestibule as an `air lock'. Not one creepy crawly or mosquito got inside the tent over the course of a month.
I wouldn't call this a four-person tent. It's perfect for an adult and two small kids- I could fit my backpacker's cot, two air mattresses for the kids, and a month's worth of gear inside. You could fit four sleeping bags inside, head to tail like sardines, with no gear, but that's no way to live.
The tent's very easy to set up and take down; it takes 5-10 minutes for an adult, or 10-15 minutes with a ten year old helping you. I like the fly buckles on each corner of the tent, but wish Kelty had included an extra plastic buckle. We lost one the first time we set up the tent, and now have to knot the strap to hold the fly down.
The tent's very light, too- great for backpacking.
It's the best 3-season tent I've ever owned.

MSR Skinny Too 2-Person Tent Review

MSR Skinny Too 2-Person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This tent performs excellent for a single wall tent. Due to the ceiling vents and the rear window condesation can be kept to a bare minimum. This is hard to find in most single wall tents unless you are spending $350.00. Due to the tube design it is very roomy and handles burly wind and light snow. I have used it in desert and alpine enviornments. I will say that if you are Big 6'2 and over you may want to use it as a solo tent unless you know your sleeping partner well. I use it as a one man but also fit my 2 65lbs dogs in it with me. I have used it on a multi trek/climb and me and my buddy loved it. A little tight but that's what you get in a light weight tent. Its actually an average size two man if you ask me. No complaints. If you are second guessing this tent, you shouldn't. Reviews and pics are posted on backcountry.com and most will agree with my words!

Building on the company's ultralight, single-wall tent options, the Skinny Too from Mountain Safety Research (MSR) provides all the benefits and features of the Skinny One, but with plenty of room for two people. The tent--which is perfect for extended two-person excursions where weight is a critical concern--is built with a straightforward, single-wall hoop design, delivering ample room (25 square feet) for a pair of mummy bags. The tent also provides the outstanding ventilation that's critical to single-wall tent performance, with an overhead, end-to-end vent, a large rear mesh window, and a roomy front vestibule that provides weatherproof protection in most conditions without having to keep the door totally shut. Perhaps best of all, the tent is easy to pitch, with a hooped sleeve-and-clip pole configuration. Other features include a taped silnylon shell that delivers full weatherproof protection, an 8.5-square-foot vestibule area, and a 38-inch peak height.

HIGH PEAK South Col 4 Season Backpacking Tent 3 person 9.7 lbs Review

HIGH PEAK South Col 4 Season Backpacking Tent 3 person 9.7 lbs
Average Reviews:

I stumbled across the HIGH PEAK South Col 4 Season Backpacking Tent while digging around the Internet looking for a new tent. I'm a Boy Scout leader, so we camp EVERY month. Warm weather tents are easy, it's the cold that separates the herd. I bought this tent days before our December camp out. It arrived while I was away. Just missed using it for the first time! I'll update this review after the next camp.
Since you really don't want to setup a tent for the first time in the cold and dark, I did a dry run in my garage and found the setup to be very easy. If you've ever put up a flexible pole tent, you could do this in the cold and the dark without worry. The oversized zippers, large rainfly clips, seam treatments, etc. indicate attention to detail. This is a very impressive tent. Made even more so by the great price!
The service from the supplier CampingMaxx has been excellent. Above and beyond what you expect from most online retailers. I've been recommending CampingMaxx to my friends and associates even before I've used the tent in the field! I will highly recommend them to our Troop committee for consideration when we need new camping equipment.
