PRICE
With a price tag of $48.88 with free shipping this bag is going to be hard to beat.Although the price tag doesn't mean much when your talking
about something as important as a sleeping bag it's hard to get a product of this caliber with all it's features in this value range. Now I'm not
about to say that this is the best sleeping bag I have ever used and/or tested but let me just say that it is defiantly worth the money. Trust me
when I say that this piece of gear could easily sell for at least $150!
Description
The description on this page doesn't really offer to much information so I will try to fill in some of the left out information as best I can. First off
this bag only comes in orange/rust color. Not that the color really matters but just so your aware of it I thought I would put that down so there is
no confusion. The Swiss Gear Crevasse 0-Degree Mummy Sleeping Bag is a half zip up style bag. Basically this means that you can't open up
the bag and lay it flat on the ground. Personally I like this because the added zipper would add wight to the product and might add some unwanted
air circulation into the bag. It also has a foot cut out for "some" circulation when needed. That is one feature that may go over looked when reading
the description on amazon but to any person really interested in this bag you should know that. Also what you didn't read (and trust me when I say
that you will want to know this) there is a closing draw string inside the bag located at the chest area. This makes it even more efficient on 0-25 degree
nights. Locking in body heat is the most impotent aspect of a sleeping bag and this little draw string helps add you in that. The hood is a little big but
still performs well enough so that it's not really an issue, besides it also has a draw sting that helps out with that. Oh and yes this has outside pocket
that can fit a phone but thats really a wast of material and wight as far as I am concerned so I wont talk about that other then letting you know that it's
there.
Packaging
Well what they didn't tell you is that this bag does not come with an efficient stuff sack.So you will most likely have to buy an after-market one from someplace
else but thats not really a big deal because you can buy one for like $5. However this bag does come with a really nice "storage" sack and it's vary nice but
it's shape and size is just not what most of us are looking for when trying to carry this sleeping bag around. I am glade it came with the bag it did though
because now I have someplace to store it when it's not being used "at least at home".

I am 5'll and it fits perfect but I am sure anybody up to 6 foot would be fine. Keep in mind though that if you are using this as a hiking bag that a new stuff sack
will be needed and this bag is 3 pounds and doesn't "stuff" down vary small so this will most likely be on the outside of your hiking bag. I have a bag that is 6,200 ci
and there is no way it would fit inside my bag while leaving room for my other gear. Outside however leaves me ALL my room!
Summery
All in all I think this is a great buy. Sure there are better ones on the market but not at this price range. If your looking for a good sleeping bag and don't want
to spend a whole lot of cash but don't want to sacrifice quality then look no further. This bag will keep you warm in 0 degree nights, cool on not so cold nights
and will not put a big hole in your pocket. I have tested this out on some recent hiking/camping trips and the bag has held it's own. It stayed dray during some
water testings and never failed to keep me warm. Buy it, use it, take care of it and I will see you on the trail!

All Weather Blanket Review

(More customer reviews)OK, I have reviewed the HeatSheet blanket and Bivvie before, it's a great product for survival where space and weight are significant considerations- the two person size or the bivvie weigh about 3oz, and are about the size of a bar of soap.
At the far end of the scale would be a good high quality military surplus wool blanket- 6+ pounds. Good for a roomy trunk, your SUV, cabin or in the home.
Here, in the middle is the "Space' or "All Weather" blanket. A super tough laminate of fiber scrim and aluminized plastic, it weighs 12oz, and is about the size of a trade paperback book. There are several advantages of the "space blanket" (note the name is also used for the super-thin one-use mylar blankets, don't get them confused):
1.Re-usable over and over, these will take a beating.
2.More uses- they can be used as a tarp, picnic blanket, or on the floor of your tent to protect the tent bottom and reflect heat back. This is my primary use, I find that one of these- PLUS a pad- works about twice as well as a pad only.
3.They have grommets so are easier to use.
4. In the desert, they make a good sun protection tarp.
So, if one can afford the weight and room, I'd suggest one of these for survival purposes on a hiking trip (one of these plus a HeatSheet bivvie would be even better). Yes, another 12 oz is a little much, but with one of these for two hikers, it's not so bad.
On the other end of the scale, if you don't want a big heavy wool blanket cluttering up your trunk- or want another layer in "cold country" then this is also a good choice. It's also good for the office.
Get the orange/silver version, as it works for signaling too.

The only downside is the container is very tough to close and I'm worried that eventually the force necessary to close this container is going to eventually break the 2 close hinges off.

Silicone Water Guard Aero. 12oz Review

(More customer reviews)The short review is that this product worked great on a needy tent. I tested it in a controlled environment (my yard) and in the field with a moderate rain storm with absolute success. For a more extensive (wordy) review keep reading:
I'm an avid outdoorsman and needed to treat my tent for an upcoming adventure. I started with products that I had on hand Scotch Guard (SG) and Kiwi Camp Dry (KCD). The Scotch Guard proved to be worthless for my application and the KCD held promise under my controlled testing. I quickly discovered that it takes a lot more product than I expected to treat my whole tent so I starting running to my local big box stores to try to find KCD. I stumbled across the Sno Seal Silicone Water Guard (SWG) and reluctantly decided to try it. The results were clear. Where I had treaded with SG there was no water repellency in spite of what the label and the picture on the can stated. The KCD beaded up but over a period of 20 minutes the water started to absorb into the fabric. The areas of double treatment with KCD did much better but the water droplets still absorbed into the fabric eventually. Where I had single treated with Sno Seal Silicone Water Guard (SWG) the fabric beaded up and stayed beaded up until the sun evaporated the water droplets. I was very impressed and treated the whole tent with the (SWG). I have since field tested the tent at an elevation of over 13,000 feet and experienced a moderate rain. My previously leaky tent held out the rain. I am now on a mission to understand this product and others and to do a more extensive review for my son's website [...]. I have discovered that the market is overloaded with this kind of product (mostly at higher prices) so doing an extensive review is a bit overwhelming. One final note, I don't recommend this product for fabric that is going to get washed such as a jacket. For this application the company has a product called Water-Guard Permanent Water and Stain Repellent. I now own this product as well and hope to do a review of it and others soon. (More customer reviews)I have used seamgrip for lots of stuff. Sealing bivys and tents. Patching holes in outer wear. Repairing wear on boot and just about anything else.
One thing to be careful of, it is difficult to manipulate. It comes out as a goo that is tacky. You will be tempted to use your fingers to manipulate it. Once on your hands or something you do not want it on, it can be very hard to get off and a small mess will become a big one quickly.
I found that WD40 cuts it very well before it sets up. If you get it on your fingers make sure NONE is under your fingernail. Even a thin layer can set up and take WEEKS to wear off. If it is under your fingernail... it will seamgrip your finger to the nail and you will get an infection. The stuff does NOT want to come off.
Great stuff, gives a good buzz too...

(More customer reviews)When we received the tent, since it was bigger than any tent we had ever owned, we decided to set it up in our yard to test it before our big camping trip the following week. The first thing we noticed was that the poles were super heavy-duty which made them very difficult to bend through the fabric to secure the tent. They were so thick in fact that when we tried to bend the first one, instead of breaking the fiberglass pole, it bent the aluminum connector area and then broke completely through. We tried fixing it with the infamous duct tape and set it up as best we could. We decided to let it stay up overnight to make sure it would be okay, and it's a very good thing we did. In the morning it was flat on the ground. I'm very glad that we made the decision to set it up before taking children on a "fun camping trip" where they would probably have ended up very scared of camping in the future! Now we have a giant tent with no support poles, and another new smaller tent with support poles that work just fine!

Our first camp out with it we were at a music festival along the lakeshore and had high winds with heavy rains. Other tents were collapsing or blowing away around us, but this tent stayed put. We had replaced the stakes with iron sand spikes as we always do when we camp. We don't trust the tiny, thin aluminum(?) stakes that come with most tents. Otherwise a good tent.

We have some older Kelty tents that have held up great through all of the abuse a group of teenage boys can put out, so we're very pleased with the brand. The features of the Gunnison were the best in the price range. We've had them out a couple of times and are happy with the room, weight and design of the tents. Especially the 2 door design and the large vestibules. We're expecting years of service from them. Will definitely buy again as we need more tents.

(More customer reviews)I'm not a frequent camper -- in fact my camping in recent years has been limited to a night every summer with my grandson in a nearby arboretum -- so the prospect of erecting this tent intimidated me a little. But it could not have been easier. Setting it up and taking it down is a snap and very intuitive. It literally goes up in minutes and is quite spacious. It can easily accommodate two adults and a child, or even three adults who don't mind sleeping in close quarters. The design of the tent is very intelligent and the construction is sturdy with reinforcement in all the right places. I don't have to carry it very far, but it's so light that I could imagine hiking up hills with it quite easily. YouTube has an excellent video by a guy who calls himself "Mr. Tent" -- it demonstrates how to put up the tent in minutes. Here's the link: [...]

(More customer reviews)I've owned this tent for about six years now. It's easy to set up, requiring only about ten minutes from roll out to the final stake, and stands up admirably to wind and rain. This is not a long term or extreme weather tent. It is designed for light use in mild weather.
I'd recommend sealing the seams around the bottom of the entryway, as a driving rain causes some minor leakage in that area, and I noticed a very small wear hole near the right front bottom clasp the last time I set it up. A quick seam-seal over the hole fixed the problem.
The first thing I noticed about the tent when I took it out of the box was that the tub of the tent is sturdy, but not heavy-duty. Extend the life of the floor by laying down a tarp underneath the tent before erecting it. I've done this since day one, and the tub still looks new, without a single rip or wear spot.
Overall a very good tent for the money if you're looking for a good, dependable weekender.

McNett Tent Sure floor sealant with foam brush, 8oz Review

(More customer reviews)There are a lot of different products out there that straddle the line between "Water Repellent", "Water Resistant" and "Water Proof". I was looking for a treatment that would "Water Proof" a home made "Basha" (or shelter) based on the Australian Army design.
I purchased some 70 denier nylon in CADPAT Digital Camouflage (The Canadian Army version) to use for the material. I sewed two pieces together for a single piece that measures 8 x 10 feet. I affixed reinforced grommets, nylon strapping for a reinforced ridge line with 12" pieces of 550 para cord sewn into the ridge line for additional tie downs. Ultimately you end up with a large sheet of tough fabric with numerous nylon loop, grommets and para cord to allow for various methods of shelter building IE, A-Frame, Lean-to, bivy shelter, etc.
All of this would be for naught if the material were not entirely waterproof.
I did a fair bit of research and the fact that this product was designed to waterproof tent floors I felt it was likely exactly what I needed.
Well, one and one half bottles later I have a very large and very water proof shelter that I would put up against any amount of rainfall.
The product is easy to apply, dries fairly fast (24 hours completely) and is very durable.
If you want "waterproof" then this is the product I would go for.
