(More customer reviews)I'm one who think that good things shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. This pack has some very nice features that the $200.00+ packs have. Bellows pockets. Plenty of room for the sleeping bag, bunches of space, easy zippers, a rain cover and is fully adjustable in all the right places.
Cons: It's a bit heavy at 5.5lbs ..but I've seen quite a few of the more expensive packs at the same weight. Also the bottle pockets aren't easy to reach with the pack on and loaded ...can be done but not easy.
I've paid more and had fewer features than this pack. Not a bad buy at all ...now I'm off to the Cascades for a good season of testing!
Fall Update:
After a summer backpacking around the Washington Wilderness areas, I would still have to say that this pack was a good buy. Plenty of room and easy to get to everything. So much room! Although a summer of backpacking sure helped point out the bad parts, two of them mainly: The back is heavy and it doesn't completely sit on your back well. The contour allows air to the back which is nice but it is as if the lumbar support is off a bit ..a little to low mainly.
At the same time, the pros outweighed the cons enough so that I didn't go back to my old pack which is *much* lighter with better padding and I used this pack through the whole 2006 season.

I've tried packs made by "real backpacking companys" and don't like them as good as this one. It feels good to use and has all the room you could need. I do alot of backpacking and don't use crappy gear, I have a Windpro, Hiker Pro, MUV, waterworks II, and a white box to name some of the great gear I use. most sams clubs have these packs in the summer and they are a great buy!!!!!!!

Softie 3 Merlin, Olive Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Merlin 3 5 years ago and use it for the cool seasons, 40 degrees to 80 degrees. The synthetic material make it too warm for summer and the lightweight make it too light for winter. However, this is the most compact, reasonably priced lightweight mummy bag I have found. It dries well, packs quickly and is highly durable. The stuff sack it came well is also a water proof compression bag.
Several minor complaints: (1) the zipper will stick if you are not conscientious; (2) the bag is rated to 32 degrees Fahrenheit but is not comfortable without being supplemented below 40 degrees; and, (3) while not narrow, the bag is not designed for broad shouldered people.
These aside, I highly recommend the Merlin 3 for temperate hikes and frequent enjoyment as I have on countless long and short forays into the great wild.

My friend has this. I tease him mercilessly.

it doesn't look like it should hold up, but it does. also, the extra fabric makes a great covering if it's a little chilly. given the choice between a thermarest and a sleeping bag and an eno, i'd sleep in the eno. all my friends who have one love it as well.
you don't have to buy the straps that eno also sells if you or someone you know knows how to make some.
all in all, it's a wonderful product, great for the outdoor lover.

I packed a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, small stove and fuel canister, small lantern, full mess kit, an extra fleece jacket, gloves, small radio, two one liter canteens(military), rain poncho, under armor top and bottom, first aid kit, compass,a eurika solo tent,camp size saw, small flashlight,boonie hat,and i still have room to spare! It has multiple tie downs and compression straps to keep large loads stable. it also has a full size built in raincover that will cover the whole load nicely. the top comes off to form a fanny pack but i havent used that yet. I would recommend this pack for people like me who travel with a lot of gear.

This pack fits the bill. I have to say that the usable capacity of this pack is less than 23 liters, however. The box that would fit around it is approximately 45 cm x 27 cm x 18 cm = 21.870 L =~ 22 liters. The actual usable space inside is less, of course--I estimate the usable capacity is more in the range from 18 to 20 liters. This is fine, as I was seeking something of about that capacity. The pack is indeed very lightweight, yet when packed with heavier gear, the generous back padding makes the load comfortable to carry and the compact design keeps the load close to the back.

(More customer reviews)i love this thing for the ability it gives me to hang just about anywhere. it's extremely packable and the colors are flashy without being ostentatious. i use mine with the admittedly overprices pro straps (had a gift card to use), but they sure have turned out to be so very convenient and useful. i'd probably even get them again just to avoid tying a few knots when i'm lazy. the hammock is strong and has held two non-obese sized adults with no issue. in fact, i want to go take a nap in it right now. be warned that although it is solid fabric (i.e. not one of those woven hammocks) it will not do a lot toward keeping you warm if a small wind picks up. it's great to nestle in with a sleeping back or blanket and pillow on colder evenings though. a+++ would buy again

Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro Hammock Review

(More customer reviews)I was dead set on getting an ENO hammock, until I read the great raving reviews of the lesser named brands here from Amazon.
I also found that once you start outfitting an ENO hammock with things like bug nets they get very pricey. So I found the Skeeter Beeter.
It was a little bit of a stab having not read any reviews on it, but the price was right and the quality seemed to be there.
The hammock is very comfortable, and made of really nice materials (parachute material for the hammock, and almost like a silk for the bug-net...no cheap-o stuff here).
My only complaints are (and I'm not really sure they're complaints, just things I wish I kn ew before buying), the size of this thing is pretty big for 1 person. 400# capacity doesn't give enough of a description, but I'm 6'1" at 185lbs and I get swallowed by this thing. I wish it was about 10% less wide.
The other thing was the bug-net...cool setup, but it does not come off...not possible to remove. There's a zipper which runs about 90% the length of 1 side, but cannot be peeled back and removed. Not a complaint per se, but I wish I knew these things before-hand
