Slumberjack No Fly Zone Personal Insect Screen Review

Slumberjack No Fly Zone Personal Insect Screen

This cover for sleeping bags allows the material to contact the skin, allowing mosquitoes to bite through the netting. If you will be in a malaria-prone area, you would be better served with another type of netting. I used mine in West Africa and immediately switched in order to prevent getting malaria. If you just want to keep other biting insects away, it might work better.

TINY. If you want to cut down on weight, this stove is great. You may have to mind the valve a bit more than on other stoves, but it is well built, cooks fast, and provides a sturdy base for small pots.

This is one of the best UL / Summit daypacks on the market and at 7 3/4 oz actual weight super light. The pack has a mesh back that is excellent for ventilation and reducing the sweaty back typical of backpacks, the mesh also creates great traction on your back vs sil nylon back panels that tend to slide around, the new model comes with a removable waist belt (make sure the outfit that sells you the pack confirms that it comes with the waist belt, if not Equinox LTD has them on hand).

Hammock Bliss Single Portable Hammock Review

Hammock Bliss Single Portable Hammock
Average Reviews:

My husband experienced hammock envy on a recent camping trip in the Black Hills of SD. After some net surfing I found a great deal on Amazon.com for a Hammock Bliss. I figured I couldn't lose on a deal like that. In using it at home, I found it to be more comfortable than our rope style hammock. The amount of material is strong and generous. I can almost wrap myself up like a mummy to keep the flying nasties off of me. Recently, I tried it camping. Looking for the right trees was the hardest part. But, it worked well without the use of tree straps thanks to the strong cords. My only difficulty with HB was getting out of it. Chalk that up to maybe age and weight. However, I used my canoe paddle as a stretcher bar and was able to gracefully eject myself out of the Bliss. Basic three word summary, PORTable, COMFORTable and AFFORDable.

Excellent product, made well, its just a little larger than I'd hoped it would be. Mine is about twice the size of the photo shown. Not a deal breaker by any means but, my pack is about as tight on space as it is on weight and hopefully there's a way to get it to the size shown in the photo.

Asolo Ultralight 23-Liter Technical Daypack Review

Asolo Ultralight 23-Liter Technical Daypack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm pleased with this pack because I was looking to buy something of about 20 liters of usable capacity, with a comfortable back, and in an attractive, compact design. This pack fits the bill. I have to say that the usable capacity of this pack is less than 23 liters, however. The box that would fit around it is approximately 45 cm x 27 cm x 18 cm = 21.870 L =~ 22 liters. The actual usable space inside is less, of course--I estimate the usable capacity is more in the range from 18 to 20 liters. This is fine, as I was seeking something of about that capacity. The pack is indeed very lightweight, yet when packed with heavier gear, the generous back padding makes the load comfortable to carry and the compact design keeps the load close to the back.

The name says it all for this technical backpack. Weighing in at only 1.4lbs, the Ultralight pack by Asolo offers the comfort of a vented mesh back but has 23-Liters (1403cu.in) of storage in the main compartment and a useful front zippered pocket for easy-to-grab essentials. Other features like the high-visibility interior and mesh waterbottle side pockets make the Ultralight pack an excellent choice for a do-it-all durable daypack.

I decided I wanted to stray away from those cr123 batteries & buy a small flashlight that used AA batteries or AAA batteries. Since I already have 3 Streamlight flashlights & 2 headlamps; Streamlight is know by me for dependability. This is a bright flashlight with a glass lens for its size & does not need those expensive cr123 batteries. If you go camping or whatever; you can get AA batteries in almost any store. I have seen when I had to watch how much I used the flashlights that used the cr123 batteries. The strobe on this flashlight would confuse anyone shined close up in their eyes. The 3rd mode would be great for reading in the dark. It even comes with a black velcro holster to wear with you that clips to your pants or on a belt. I might add a lanyard to mine. (A small cord that is hooked to the flashlight & can wrap around your wrist.) Both ends on this flashlight have defensive bezels if needed for close self defense. Buy one & you'll be amazed with this amazing flashlight! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

TrailWorthy Three Man Dome Tent with Rainfly Review

TrailWorthy Three Man Dome Tent with Rainfly

I shopped for a tent to set up indoors to let kids sleep in and pretend they were really camping. I also hoped to use it for actual backyard camping (with adults) at some point, so I didn't want one that was exclusively a toy. Given how seldom I planned to use it, this looked like it would suit both purposes without breaking the bank. I was pleased with the durability and design but I was very disappointed that it did not come with directions or safety information and when I contacted the seller, I was advised that the manufacturer simply does not include directions with this tent.

Spent way too long researching tents for size, weight, durability, mesh area. Did not care about cost. This tent was the winner. I'm 6ft, head and toes don't touch ends. Sit up room excellent. Wide enough for me and 2-12yr olds. Hammered in rain for hours, with 90% humidity, 95F, doors open, not a drop. Vestibule big enough for packs. Stuff sack large for packing wet tent. Set instructions need help (longest poll attach to red tabbed corners and pole hubs smooth side face up) Don't worry about all the comments on the poles or difficulty setting up. Just follow the sentance above. Only con, zippers catch (4 of 5 stars). Really happy with purchase.

Amazon.com Tent Guide Selecting a Tent Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

I have yet to find something bad to say about this sleeping bag. I am 6' and 225# and slip into and out of this bag with ease. I can move and stretch in a warm and cozy environment. The coldest I have slept in so far has been in the mid-teens. I slept very well. It is light and great for backpacking. The price was half of similar bags I viewed and it also had free shipping. A true hidden diamond.

MSR Mo Room Tent 2-Person 3-Season Review

MSR Mo Room Tent 2-Person 3-Season
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a novice camper with two (two person) tents... and they couldn't be any more different. In my experience, a two person tent generally means that two people sleep "head to feet" (meaning two people do not sleep with their heads at the same end). The MSR Mo Room 2p is generous on space, and more tailored for two people that want to sit up and play cards without hitting your head on the top or sides. Two sleeping bags can fit side by side without bumping shoulders, but if you bring anything extra, it will need to sit at your feet or in the vestibule area. I would not consider this an ideal tent for backpacking (as it is not designed for that), however it is plausible if you don't mind the added 3 to 4lbs or just put the poles in your friend's pack. Setting it up was not too bad, but a little more complex than my other two man tent. Once you get everything together the first time and see how it works, its really not that bad. My best advice: As with any new tent, set it up at home first before you leave on your first trip with it. The poles require a lot of flexing to lock down, but this of course is what makes it so sturdy. One thing I would also add, is that the included stakes were much more solid than those flimsy little silver "wannabe stakes" that came with most tents such as my North Face Tephra 22 tent (Which is might add is a cool tent, but really more ideal for just one person.) Because of the quality of the pieces that come in the bag, I am not concerned that this Mo Room 2p is going to "cave" in the middle of the night.
I purchased this tent for $229 from a new vendor (Second Ascent). The item arrived "Brand New" as advertised. The shipping was a little slow, but on time as promised. To summarize, I would consider this a successful purchase at this price point for a two person camping experience that will give you enough room to spread out. It's feasible to take on a two person backpacking trip, but ideal for a solid/reliable base camp tent.

ALPS Mountaineering® Zephyr 3 - person Tent Review

ALPS MountaineeringĀ® Zephyr 3 - person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is almost identical to the ALPS Zephyr 2, with a bit more width. Please check the Zephyr 2 reviews for more reviews and some pictures I posted.
I gave the Zephyr 3 4 instead of 5 stars only because I really cannot see how you could fit three adults in this tent. My expectations for space were a little higher than with the Zephyr 2, which I also own. However, it is high quality, light, and can be found at very low prices from time to time. If you find a good deal and need a tent for TWO adults, snatch this up.
here is what I wrote about the Zephyr 2, which also applies here, other than the fact that it is really a 2-person (like many other "3-person" tents).
At the price, this is a great tent.
Here are the only downsides I can find so far with the Zephyr:
1) The footprint is hard to find. Search for "floor saver."
2) There are partial sleeves so you cannot pitch the footprint/fly and then be sheltered to pitch the rest of the tent. However, you can pitch just footprint (not included) and fly for a light shelter.
3) With the fly door unzipped all the way, water can enter the tent. Just don't unzip all the way if it is raining.
I have now decided that #3 is not bad, as it allows a nice view straight up at the stars when you are laying down with the fly open.
I bought this tent because I found a great deal and loved my Zephyr 2. It has not disappointed, and I knew before buying that 3 people would be unrealistic.

ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 3 - person Tent. Maximum weather protection, easy set - up and enough room for your crew and your gear! Your first step towards being a "happy camper"! Why? Well, let's talk set-up first... it couldn't be easier, thanks to tent clips that simply snap into place on the Zephyr's 2-pole design. Those poles, by the way, are made of aircraft alloy aluminum, so they're super strong and extremely lightweight. OK, so it's easy to set-up... but how much protection does it offer? Answer: plenty! The polyester fly and nylon floor are urethane coated and feature factory-sealed seams for maximum weather protection. The Zephyr's new, improved design allows for great head room while 2 vestibules provide that extra space needed to store your gear. And on top of ALL THAT, it weighs just over 5 lbs., so it won't weigh you down on the trail. More: Mesh walls offer superb ventilation; Fly buckles to the tent, offering a much more secure attachment when compared to elastic cord; Mesh storage pocket is included for organizing your stuff; Free-standing 2-pole design; Extra large zippers on vestibule and door for easy operation; 75D, 185T polyester fly resists UV damage; 75D, 185T taffeta floor with 2,000 mm urethane coating for extra protection from the elements; Stakes and guy ropes are included. The nitty-gritty: Base size: 6'2" x 7'5"; Center height: 41; Vestibule depth: 28; Tent area: 40 sq. ft.; Vestibule area: 18 sq. ft.; Tent and fly weight: 5 lbs., 3 oz.; Total weight: 5 lbs., 7 ozs.; Packed Size: 6 x 21; Pole diameter: 8.5 mm; Easy set-up, great protection and plenty of room... what you've always wanted in a tent!
