Hammock Bliss Single Portable Hammock Review

My husband experienced hammock envy on a recent camping trip in the Black Hills of SD. After some net surfing I found a great deal on Amazon.com for a Hammock Bliss. I figured I couldn't lose on a deal like that. In using it at home, I found it to be more comfortable than our rope style hammock. The amount of material is strong and generous. I can almost wrap myself up like a mummy to keep the flying nasties off of me. Recently, I tried it camping. Looking for the right trees was the hardest part. But, it worked well without the use of tree straps thanks to the strong cords. My only difficulty with HB was getting out of it. Chalk that up to maybe age and weight. However, I used my canoe paddle as a stretcher bar and was able to gracefully eject myself out of the Bliss. Basic three word summary, PORTable, COMFORTable and AFFORDable.

this hammock is amazing. it's so comfortable and durable. i've set it up both inside and out, and i LOVE it.
it doesn't look like it should hold up, but it does. also, the extra fabric makes a great covering if it's a little chilly. given the choice between a thermarest and a sleeping bag and an eno, i'd sleep in the eno. all my friends who have one love it as well.
you don't have to buy the straps that eno also sells if you or someone you know knows how to make some.
all in all, it's a wonderful product, great for the outdoor lover.

The word single has no place in this products title. It's easily a two person hammock. More than big enough sleep in without fear of falling out.
The big downside is that it isn't a mesh hammock. It's pretty warm to lay in when its hot out. Of course, not being mesh means this hammock is a lot more durable. It's a terrible trade off to make.
I'm glad I bought it.

The hammock seems to be durable and is very lightweight. It took me under a minute to assemble it. However, it only is guaranteed to hold up to 150 lbs. Also, the ropes that are included are relatively short, limiting the distance between which the hammock can be set up. However, it does pack up very well and seems to be great for camping.

Mosquito Free Hammock Bliss - Portable Bug Free Hammock - 100 Rope Per Side Included - Ideal For Camping, Backpacking, Kayaking and Travel

I just got back from a week of camping in Panama where I used this hammock for the first time and I loved it. Not only was it super comfortable but it was easy to hang up and easy to use the mosquito net. This was my first time sleeping in a hammock and I was amazed at how well I slept. During the day when I just wanted to hang out in the hammock I used the green side and then at night I used the side with the mosquito net. It worked wonderfully.
The only thing that I would maybe caution others about is that when you are laying in the hammock and not using the mosquito net, unzip the net from the hammock so it doesn't put a lot of strain on the zipper. I tore a little tiny hole at the end of the zipper because I didn't unzip the hammock and because I was sitting putting all my weight on the zipper. It is a really fantastic hammock though and I really feel that this wouldn't have happened if I had not sat on the unzipped zipper.

Hammock Bliss No-See-Um No More - The Ultimate Bug Free Hammock

(More customer reviews)
I have gotten into hiking and wanted to replace my tent to cut weight and actually get a decent nights sleep for a change. After reviewing about every hammock out there I purchased the Hammock Bliss. I got it fairly quickly but was worried about set up as I had no time to practice before my trip this past weekend. We went to Stone Mtn NC with 3 other guys and the daytime temp was 74 and the nighttime was supposed to be around 50. I was worried that it would be cold at night so I decided to take a car reflective sun shield for my pad and my 30 degree mummy bag and a tarp (rain wasnt in the forcast but wanted to see what it would be like with the tarp). I found two trees about 8-10 ft apart that were medium size that also had some bark and werent slick. This is ideal as you dont have a ton of extra rope. I had brought extra for the tarp just in case as well but I would suggest bringing extra and know how to tie overhand knots or other knots to join the two pieces. I used the bowline knot and tied an overhand with the extra on both sides and it didnt budge. You want to hang it at chair level normally, but hang it a little high the first time as it will sag with your body weight on the first few uses. Next I set up the guy lines for the bug net and that was easy as well. So with no practice, I was able to get set up in no time at all. I had my dinner cooking while setting up and it was hot and ready by the time I finished with the tarp up. I like the tarp not being included as I would rather provide my own and have the hammock at a lower price. Plus there are tons of different tarps on the market so to me its a plus to be able to customize your setup. Now to how I slept, I am a big guy at 250 and it held my weight fine getting in and out. Luckily it wasnt windy at all which is surprising being on top the mtn. I started off with laying on the reflector and using my bag as a quilt. I had slept about an hour and woke at 11.15 and my shoulders were freezing as they were touching the hammock. I should have got out and repositioned everything but I wiggled in my sleeping bag and eventually got it zipped up. Slept straight till 4.15 and had to readjust again and slept till 7. I slept and felt great in the morning and wasnt stiff at all. I wondered about being claustrophobic as well but in the end I really enjoyed the closed in feeling. I really think if it had been windy I may have had to share a tent though as it did get down to 45. I will be experimenting with other setups (like an underquilt) and will update what works best, but can tell you I am not going back to sleeping on rocks and stumps. I hope this helps Comment | Permalink

Eagles Nest Outfitters SingleNest Hammock Review

I purchased this hammock for all my future outdoor trips after doing extensive research on every company who makes/ sells hammocks. Some people might prefer to buy a system that is "all-inclusive" (i.e. - with bug net and rainfly attached). I'm not one of those people. I prefer to have control of what I pack depending on the journey. I was hoping to try it out in the wilderness first, but as luck would have it the family reunion that I'm currently on took priority. I think everyone in the family thought I was crazy for bringing it up to Minneapolis since we'd be at a condo (instead of outdoors and closer to trees). However, the patio area has two perfectly spaced columns that have worked out well! Every evening I'll set it up in a matter of minutes, lay in and just watch the stars till I fall asleep.
The hammock itself is a perfect size with more than enough room to spare (I'm 5'10" and around a buck 90). Others have complained that this hammock is too restraining. It's a travel hammock...not a king size bed or one of those hammocks that come with a metal frame. The material, cord, biners and overall construction of the hammock are top notch! I looked at the slap straps that ENO sells and instead of spending an extra $20 for the straps, I just purchased two lengths of climbers webbing at 1 in x 9 feet each for a total cost of $3.45. I would advice this for others who are buying this hammock or any hammock in lieu of pre-made straps. A simple bowline or waterknot with some backup ties does the trick and you can set the connection loop where you want instead of where the manufacturer has sewn it in. That is another issue I had with the pre-made slap straps. Eventually, the stitching for the sewn loops will fray due to exposure to the elements and use. I'd rather spend my money on other gear.
The third party I purchased the hammock from (Goliath) rocks! I got it a day earlier than expected. I would definitely buy from them again!

Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Hammock Review

Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Hammock

I received this as a gift last year and promptly took it on a 3 day wilderness expedition. When you have to carry everything you could possibly need over 3 days of exploring, weight matters a lot, and this hammock weighs near nothing. You will also appreciate how relaxing it is to not have to deal with uneven/rocky ground that hurts almost as bad a too heavy pack. It is also setup and ready for use in a few minutes... very simple to get camp ready after a long day of hiking and mapping. My only beef with it is that the mesh is not even remotely flame retardant, as a stray ember from our small campfire hit it and burned a 1 inch hole nearly instantly. Nothing that the almighty piece of duct tape couldn't fix, but it would've been a great feature.
Between this and my Katadyn, I'll never hit a trail without it!

There's no better way to ruin a camping trip than to get eaten alive by mosquitoes. Enter the Skeeter Beeter hammock, which is not only light enough to appeal to fast-moving adventurers, but also offers shelter from nature's most unsavory critters. Preserving the same lightweight design as the Ultra-Light Travel Hammock but with an attached no-see-um mosquito net mesh, the hammock is a must for camping trips near lakes or in damp forests. The hammock is made of 100-percent polyester taffeta, with 3x stitching on all stress points. As a result, the hammock maxes out at 250 pounds--enough for one adult or a couple of kids. In addition, you don't need to sleep with the netting if you find it uncomfortable. Simply flip the hammock onto its backside and it turns into a traditional hammock. The remainder of the time, however, the fine mosquito netting acts as a comfortable cocoon, shielding you from nasty bugs and pesky crawlers.
The Skeeter Beeter comes with an easy overhead net suspension system that sets up in a matter of minutes, along with a free hammock hanging system that includes two 10-foot pieces of pre-knotted hanging rope and attached S-hooks. Other details include a mildew-resistant, quick-dry design and an attached stuff sack for transport. The Skeeter Beeter measures 9.5 by 4.5 feet, weighs 20 ounces, and carries a 2-year warranty.

This is a set of 2 very simple nylon straps with loops at both ends. The photo shows one way to use them but it's not the best way. I found that by by wrapping the tie around the tree, then slipping one end through the loop in the other (just like a dog choke chain) you can get these to adjust to most any size tree. You will probably need an S hook or karabiner to attach these to your hammock.
