STAKE BUDDY Secured Stake Remover Review

STAKE BUDDY Secured Stake Remover

... you could either hold the tent cord BELOW the seams as you pull so you don't rip them, or you could pick up ANY cord or strap you have handy around camp and do the exact same thing.
My friend has this. I tease him mercilessly.
This thing does what it's supposed to, but it takes about 1.5 seconds of innovative thinking to render this product completely unnecessary.

TITANIUM ULTRALITE HOOK STAKE Review

TITANIUM ULTRALITE HOOK STAKE
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A perfect set of tough little stakes made from titanium. This metal is durable, will not corrode and will stun you once you hold them. They feel like you're holding a set of six soda straws as opposed to six metallic stakes. While they may be featherweight, they are tougher than it gets, and I've had the opportunity to use them in a variety of soils including the sand and rock of Iraq.
They held up beautifully securing my portable solar panel from Brunton from the high winds of the Iraqi desert, and equally so in the clay and rocky soil of Fort Riley Kansas. Other reviewers will tell you to look into different styles depending on where you plan to camp. I say this is excellent advice, never trust your safety to something you haven't researched fully. What I can say is these have served me well everywhere I have used them, and they are well worth the price plus the weight you save in your pack. Now if only i could find a packable titanium hammer haha....

Kelty Yellowstone 6 Footprint Review

Kelty Yellowstone 6 Footprint
Average Reviews:

The footprint works well as ground cover for the tent. It is light and easy to set up.
If you want a "porch" to lay gear or a place to rest your shoes you are out of luck w/ the footprint because there is no over hang.
Personally I have begun using the Yellowstone 6 footprint for my back packing tent and a large tarp for the Yellowstone 6 tent.
It is a great footprint, but smaller then our needs.

Easton Aluminum Tent Stake Review

Easton Aluminum Tent Stake
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These stakes are very light and fit the bill when going ultra-light. The rope loop attached to the head of each stake is helpful when removing them from hard ground. On that subject, the stakes are sturdy but not impervious to bending. Although they performed very well, driving them into near solid, limestone-rich South Florida ground put their strength to the test. One of them bent slightly (hardly noticeable) after a handful of futile mallet strikes where penetration was evidently impeded by limestone a few inches beneath the soil. I would expect that kind of stress to bend just about any stake out there, so I am not too dissapointed in this. Overall, these stakes worked well for me.

MSR Reflective Cord Kit Review

MSR Reflective Cord Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nothing is worse than tripping over a tent stake or guy line in the night when stumbling out of camp for storm prep or just to relieve one's self. Using cordage like this helps to greatly reduce the incidence of such accidents. It can also help n finding the camp again in the dark and rain, as I have found out by personal experience! Reflective cordage is now a staple of my kit. Also make a good lanyard. Lost a knife in the dark? Shine a light around a bit and follow the reflection! Great stuff!

Figure 9 Tent Line Kit Review

Figure 9 Tent Line Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these because I wanted the reflective line and the Figure 9's looked cool and I thought it would be easy to adjust tent lines. You can adjust tent lines very easily with Figure 9. However the product's strength is also it's weakness. The Figure 9 also grabs on to everything else as well. Fold up your tent after use and you will find that the next time you use it you can count on 4 or 5 minutes of detangling the 9's. Put up your tent near shrubs and you will find the 9's catching on the leaves, stems, pine needles, anything else that happens to get in the way.
Great product except it really hasn't made putting up my tent any easier or faster. The reflective lines are great but only reflect if you are wearing a headlamp. In that case they reflect like neon signs. However the angle of reflection is so small that when I wore the headlamp and my girlfriend did not, she could not see the lines even though she was standing next to me.

This is a good way to buy the smaller-sized tent stakes. They are big enough for most purposes, and much less likely to get lost than thin metal stakes. Recommended for Boy Scout Troops, etc.

Ultralight Super Strong Tent Stakes Review

Ultralight Super Strong Tent Stakes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These stakes are hard almuminum, and take hammer hits well. Pulling out of most soils was easy enough. Their shape provides good holding power and easy removal. Where they fall short of Ground Hogs, is their bending point. Wall thickness is thinner, and they will bend even when driven up to their necks. To give the stakes credit, I was loading them very heavily; far more than I could have loaded wire stakes, and others.
Overall, I like them. For only $7 I had to give them a try. I am a recreational camper who doesn't need ultra-reliable stakes, and these were actually pretty good. Probably a good purchase for campers who don't really need eight Ground Hogs (like me).
Those who travel all over, and need reliable stakes to pound into concrete will need Ground Hogs, but for those who need good stakes for regular dirt, these work well.
P.S. I straightened my 2 bent stakes, and they will hold pretty much anything I tie on them. Just not the ridiculous load that originally bent them.
Update Oct., 2010
Just returned from a week-long hammock trip through Arkansas and Texas. I bent the stakes again, by stepping on the guy lines in the dark. Straightened them out by wedging them in between the slats of a picnic table, and bending back. The soil was hard sand, and compacted gravel/sand. They held up okay for the remainder of the trip. As both a tent camper and a hammock camper, I wouldn't choose these stakes again. They are too large for what they do. Spending the time and effort to pound several 7 inch stakes into the ground just to have them bend, isn't worth it. Extraction is easy enough, but they just don't have the strength-to-usefulness ratio right. I'm going to buy Ground Hogs.

While these stakes say they are for camping, I would only use them in emergencies. They look to be strong and well-made, however they are heavy if you need to use them for backcountry camping. If you are car camping, I don't see a problem with the weight. In short, don't buy these if you are looking to cut weight in your pack!

Kelty Nobendium II Tent Stakes Review

Average Reviews:

I picked these up as a replacement for the factory stakes included with my Kelty Gunnison 4.1 tent. They are miles ahead of the stock stakes. However, they CAN bend if you hit a rock or are careless.
The better options are from Sierra Designs Hex Peg Stakes. They aren't as easy to bend as this Kelty model. Even better yet are stakes that are y-shaped such as the MSR Groundhogs, Coghlan's Ultra Light, or Sierra Designs Y-Stake.In short, they are way better than the stock stakes but there are still better options out there at comparable prices.

MSR Ground Hog Stake Kit Review

MSR Ground Hog Stake Kit

Simply the best tent stake on the market today. I've been a Scoutmaster for 23 years and have gone through dozens of different designs of tent stakes looking for the most perfect one out there: this is it. They can be bought for about $2 ea. If you look around you can find cheaper copies sold in different colors but unless you're buying them by the hundred as I am, it's not worth the search. The three sided design grabs the soil, placed sideways it hold in sand and snow. The anodized aluminum is very lightweight but drives into the hardest ground. ...and the lifetime warranty means you'll never have to pay for a tent stake ever again!
