Dual Identity Review

Dual Identity
Average Reviews:

Awkward to set up, given that the instructions are unclear about how to stabilize it before staking it out and how to keep insects out. FYI it does NOT have a bottom, just flaps. Thought you might like to know, since the photo makes it appear that it DOES have a bottom, and there is no metion in the product description to suggest otherwise. In addition, we had to add an extra tarp with more elaborate staking on top of the 'rain fly" to keep the rain out. Oh and btw, the stakes that come with it, are those crappy, yellow plastic ones--they are hard to get in the ground and they BREAK when you're trying to remove them. Another low quality point, the poles are raw metal on the bottom, no finished caps, so they cut into the grass and fill up with dirt and mud (in addition to leaving divets in your grass lawn.) We're really dissatisfied and would send the thing back if it wasn't such a hassle/shipping charges, etc. I definatley would not call it the "The Next Level in Camping" as the slogan suggests. That's what we get for buying this sort of equipment online. Gigatent The Dual Identity Screen Canopy

King Canopy Deluxe Weight Bag, 4 Pack Review

King Canopy Deluxe Weight Bag, 4 Pack
Average Reviews:

I like the weight bags. They look good and do the job they are suppose to. My problem is that the first time I used them, on the ride home one of them split open. Not at the zipper but the actual canvas. Nothing sharp was near the bag, only another bag on top of it. I have contacted the seller to see what they will do for me. I was considering ordering another set for extra weight. As of now I will have to wait and see if the seller will send me a replacement bag. It may have been just one bad bag. Other then that I would give this item 5 stars.

We love this screenhouse because you can see through it easily. But after having it up for a few months on our redwood deck, the roof seams are ripping! I think because the Insta-clip system puts stress on the roof material and causes it to rip at the seams. We now realize this item won't last even one year.

ShelterLogic 18 x 40- Feet Canopy 2- Inch 7-Rib Frame, White Cover Review

ShelterLogic 18 x 40- Feet Canopy 2- Inch 7-Rib Frame, White Cover

We had high hopes of using this as shelter for our RV but it is not made for that. The picture shows farm equipment stored under it and Camping World sells it therefore we thought it would work for an RV shelter. But the company says it is for short term use like day or weekend use. It says it has a 11 ft center but due to a stabilizing bar that goes across (not shown in picture) you loose 18 inches of height. There is no way to secure the horizontal bars (side and top) or the trusses to the side angles - the company says the canopy will hold it together. We found this not to be true. They came apart on the top when we were putting the legs on and a 10mph wind would catch the canopy and pull it apart (we had the canopy as tight as we could get it). We bought extra legs to raise it high enough for our RV but had left it with the one set, as it came, to see how it would hold up to weather. The second night up we had winds and many of the horizontal bars came out of the connector. We ended up going out in the wee hours and taking the canopy cover off. For the money it is poorly constructed. The welds do not go all the way around the angle bars, the lack of holes to screw to secure the bars is poor planning. We bought screws to hold the truss bar to the side angle since there were holes there. Again, the company depends on the canopy to hold the unit together. We have shelters we use for flea markets that are easier to put up and better constructed. I can not imagine going to all the work to put this up for a weekend event. My sister's car shelter sold at a warehouse store is made better and has tension rods to make sure the unit stays together. I am glad Camping World stands behind the products they sell. It would be wise though to put a disclaimer that it is not intended to be used as a storage shelter.

Coleman 13 x 11 Insta-Clip Screen Review

Coleman 13 x 11 Insta-Clip Screen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used 6 of these screenhouses in the past 2 years for some agricultural field experiments. This was not normal use and they received a lot of abuse, but mostly the tents stood up to the challenge. I put them up in mid-June and they were up through late August. They lasted those few months, even in some very severe winds. Instead of using the wimpy metal stakes included with the package, I pounded rebars into the ground (at the angle of the hollow support poles) and pushed the poles onto the rebars. This really stabilized the tents.
The other reviewer here mentioned that the support poles are made of a soft steel and don't hold up very well. This is very true. The poles are in pieces and fit together to form 4 long support pieces that clip into an "x" at the top of the tent. However, many of the pieces crimped and bent at the bend in the upper corners of the tent. This made some of the tents kind of wonky-looking and unstable. It also weakened the fabric at these points, since the tab/clip part was stressed due to the instability of the supports. The bent pieces also made it nearly impossible to disconnect the support pieces. This was not a problem for me since I left the tents up permanently, but would be aggravating for a family or individuals trying to put up/take down the screenhouse several times.
The picture and description is not entirely clear about the bottom of the screenhouse. Please note that there is no "bottom" fabric inside; it even appears this way on the photo on the package. Instead, there are blue tarp-type flaps attached to the bottom of each side. This was great for me, since I was in a cornfield and could pile dirt on the flaps to prevent insects and rodents from getting in. If you will have this up for any length of time, you may want to put some heavy objects on the flaps.
The setup is very easy once you get the hang of it. I strongly recommend setting the screenhouse up with 2 adults, particularly if it's windy. The support pole clips are sometimes difficult to snap into the "x" on the tent top, but eventually they go in. Even though the sides are mesh, they really do keep the bugs out (I was doing research on bugs, so I know!) and the mesh never ripped even with several people going in/out daily. The zippers never failed to work, even when they were dirty.
Each tent also comes in a sturdy blue fabric tote. The stakes (metal and plastic) come in bags to keep them together. I didn't have too much difficulty stuffing everything back in the tote.
I am giving this four stars for 2 reasons:
1) The screenhouses did last a long time, even in harsh weather with a lot of dust and abuse.
2) The customer service people at Coleman were very nice and shipped me replacement support poles free of charge when they bent.
If you have problems with the supports, I recommend calling the company directly (there is a slip inside the package with their number and warranty info) to ask about replacements. I had no problem with their customer service.

I am not using this as a car canopy, but as a cover for my raised bed gardens. It is perfect as it keeps the deer out along with other wildlife and lets the air flow through. The only additional thing you have to buy are tent stakes for the bottom of the screen. This keeps the squirrels out too. Very roomy and would recommend this.

I wanted a canopy I could use at home, but I wanted a screened in one for our vacation. The mosqitos can be intense up in Canada, but this shelter allowed us to enjoy our evenings on the lakeshore. It comes in a nice black wheeled storage bag. The canopy and screens are easy to set up and they actually fit back in the bag. The frame is best set up with two people, but I was able to take it down by myself. There are three lockable heights for the poles which helps if the ground is uneven. The frame is solid for something portable. The canopy material is thin yet seems durable. I am very satisfied with this product. Good price too. We did find it attracted spiders, lots of spiders . That may have just been our location.

I buy this same tent every year, the ONLY one that looks great and has lots of room. The only problem is that it is NOT waterproof, and the D-ring material rots fast, but I do keep it up an entire summer in wind and rain, on a platform I built. Don't know what I'd do if this style was discontinued - probably make exact tent from marine fabric!Hate the ones that look like camping gear.

Texsport Patio Umbrella Net Review

Texsport Patio Umbrella Net
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, idea is great but for lack of material or not for a 9' umbrella as stated.
Like another user, the net did NOT reach the deck surface properly. If I had a smaller umbrella ( an 8' or 7' ) it would have been fine.( BTW, noticed in ad picture they closed the umbrella a little bit to make the net perfect on the floor )
I spent about a 1/2 hour adjusting the net to fit proper to no avail. When I pulled on one side, it just lifted the other ( there was really no more give in the elastic top ring ).
So, if you have a 7' or 8' umbrella it will more than likely work ok, but not for a 9' as in the ad.
Quality of materials not the issue, just the lack of lenght!

Eureka Breezeway 12' x 12' Screen House Review

Eureka Breezeway 12' x 12' Screen House

My family of 6 loves this screen house. When we camp we place the picnic table and cooking table inside for weather and insect protection. It survived a terrible storm in the Adirondack Mountains that toppled trees (and sadly killed someone inside their trailer). Our Eureka Titan Tent survived also. We would buy another Eureka product without hesitation.

A great choice for backyard barbecues, days at the beach, or evenings lounging at the campsite, the square Eureka Breezeway is nicely light and easily transportable thanks to its aluminum frame. It has a 144 square foot area (12 by 12 feet)--just right to fit a standard-sized picnic table--and a roomy 7 foot, 7 inch center height. The near-vertical side walls also provide more usable interior space.
The 150D polyester splash cloth and roof provide excellent UV resistance, and offers more durability than other screen houses with 75D polyester roofs. The strong durable shockcorded aluminum frame attaches to the body by a central hub and clips for a fast and easy set up every time. Other features include two full-length doors and no-see-um polyester mesh walls.
About Eureka Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka’s long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company’s annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka’s new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women’s Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.

This screen house is wonderful if at times you want to keep out the rain, wind, or sunlight. All sides have drop curtains so you can raise, lower whichever ones you want. Set up was easy and one person could do it. The product quality is excellent....you get what you pay for!! Poles are sturdy. Poles to use a curtain as an awning are included. My only fault is that guy ropes to tie the tent down are not included....a mystery because it certainly would not be a big added expense. The best price was at Amazon...more than 100 bucks saved!

This is the 2nd tent like this I've purchased. It's definitely a low end tent (the poles are fairly thin metal) but it has good construction and a number of very nice touches (the straps are buckles, not velcro as my last tent).
The poles did bend in an unusually violent rain/wind storm, but the tent is still usable. Very nice for the price -- I'd buy it again.
